Player Information

As A Courtesy To Others

Cell Phones

It is Club Policy that cell phones are turned off during the game. Procedural penalties may apply for failure to do so.

Game Time

Players are requested to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to game time and be ready to play. This includes properly completed convention cards.

Clean Hands = Clean Cards

Please take a napkin when you take any snacks and wipe your hands before touching the bidding boxes or your cards.  This is more sanitary and prevents damage to our equipment.

The Whole Enchilada

Game Time

As a courtesy to others, players are requested to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to game time and be ready to play. This includes properly completed convention cards.

Convention Cards

The ACBL requires that partnerships have completed filling in their cards and that both cards are identical.

Procedural penalties may apply for failure to do so.

Conventions

ACBL Open Chart conventions are approved

ACBL Open + Chart conventions are not allowed

Cell Phones

As a courtesy to others, it is club policy that cell are turned off during the game.

Procedural penalties may apply for failure to do so.

Psyching

While it is understood that psyching is part of bridge, it is the Board’s position that

it should not be employed against substantially weaker or inexperienced players.

Whenever the improper use of this technique is brought to the attention of the Director,

the Director is empowered to redress the action via appropriate adjustments to your score.

Zero Tolerance

The Club will enforce the guidelines of ACBL zero tolerance policy at all Club games

Slow Play

Duplicate Bridge is a timed event. Slow play is discourteous to your opponents-and to all other competitors as well.  Slow play, especially habitual slow play, is a violation of ACBL law and subject to penalty.

When a pair has fallen behind, it is incumbent on them to make up the time lost as quickly as possible whether at fault or not. All players are expected to make a concerted effort to catch up when they have fallen behind, regardless of the reason for their lateness.

While warnings typically will be given before a penalty is assessed, failure to do so

in no way limits the director's authority to issue a penalty. Players are expected to be aware, in a general sense, of time used and remaining in a segment in which they are playing

As a reminder if a player states that they don’t care if they are late or not, that is a Zero Tolerance violation. If the round has been called and the opening lead has not been made the board is a No Play. The round ends when the time clock is 0.00.  Any hand in play before the round is called continues to completion.

Late plays are not allowed.

Appeals

BCNC does not have an appeals committee procedure.  Players may not request a committee review. The Director will consult the rule book and discuss with other directors as necessary.

North South Table Assignment Requests

There is a signup sheet on the director’s desk to request a North – South table assignment for a future game.

Please be aware that Requests for a North-South are not guaranteed.

Factors influencing N-S assignment are

1) Individuals with a handicap,

2) The need for the director to balance the field

3) Table count vs. number of requests.

Also Howell movements have limited stationary tables.

How To Submit A Complaint

Sometimes things go wrong even in a zero tolerance club. It is best to call the director immediately. Most problems can be resolved at the table.

 Failing that:

If it involves another player, see the director.  You can request the director to log it in the Club Incident Log. In some cases you may be requested to complete a Player Memo for disciplinary chair review.

If it involves the director, please report it to the Club Manager.

Score Corrections

Time limit for corrections is 72 hours after the event.

Request for corrections can be made on BCNC web site.

Game Ticket Booklets (white tickets)

  1. American Express credit cards are not accepted

  2. Full payment is required when sold.

  3. Use of a game ticket for events having a cash entry fee lower than the standard $11 open game fee is prohibited. Cash back for the difference is not approved.

  4. Third party checks are not accepted.

Pets

Only certified service dogs are allowed in the club. No exceptions.

Support animals do not qualify as “service animals”.  In California, falsely and knowingly claiming to be the owner of a service animal is a misdemeanor.

It can result in up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

During The Game

BCNC provides the best variety of snacks possible for your enjoyment.

Unfortunately these snacks can be messy. In order to keep our cards and bidding boxes clean and sanitary, please take a napkin when you take any finger food.

Wipe your hands after handling food during the play.

Only you can prevent unnecessary equipment replacement.
